Merlin a brash adventurous Time Lord has gambled away the vitally important time stone resulting in his banishment to this existence.
The disguised time stone evades detection until it’s finally discovered in the 20th century by archaeologist Rebecca LeBeck and her team who gives into pressure from the UK Military and her husband Warren allowing the gem to be subjected to laser-weaponry testing. Those experiments cause the time stone to detonate into a colossal explosion.
